Everyone from the Ages of 3 to 103, and Beyond, Can Understand the Analects of Confucius: “Virtuousness Invites a Friendly Neighborhood”

👉 If a person is honest, friendly, and helpful both outwardly and inwardly (virtuousness), he will naturally attract many admirers, like-minded friends, and positive relationships (a friendly neighborhood).

👉 Focus on cultivating your own “virtue” instead of worrying about what your “neighbors” might be like. By doing so, you will reap the rewards of maximizing the benefits and minimizing the costs of getting along with others.

👉 However, from the time of Confucius to today and even into the future, the opposite situation is unfortunately quite common. When people’s outward and inward behavior is laden with negative traits such as dishonesty, unfriendliness, and unhelpfulness, they end up harming each other and collectively becoming losers. This is the opposite of Confucius’s advice: “Depletion of virtuousness invites an unfriendly neighborhood.” In such cases, the benefits of harmonious relationships are minimized, while the costs are maximized.

👉 Congratulations if your interpersonal relationships reflect the principle of “virtuousness invites a friendly neighborhood.” Regrettably, Confucius cannot give you a medal!
